TU Cancels PhD Equivalence of Dipendra Singh Sunar from Singhania University
Kathmandu — The Curriculum Development Centre of Tribhuvan University (TU) has cancelled the equivalence certificate of a person who obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from a university in India.
The Centre’s Executive Director issued a public notice on Baishakh 11, 2083 BS, stating that the equivalence granted to Dipendra Singh Sunar of Dadeldhura district, Sudurpaschim Province, had been cancelled.
Sunar had obtained a PhD degree in 2023 from Singhania University, Rajasthan, India. On the basis of the same degree, he had received an equivalence letter from TU’s Curriculum Development Centre on Ashoj 15, 2080 BS, through Dispatch No. 4660.
However, a complaint was filed at the Centre stating that Sunar had not obtained prior approval from TU before pursuing the PhD and had received the degree without spending the minimum required period at the university.
Based on the complaint, the Centre proceeded with an investigation and published a 35-day notice on Shrawan 29, 2082 BS, seeking a response.
As no response was received from Sunar within the prescribed 35-day deadline, the university took action. The Centre stated that, as he did not submit an explanation, the equivalence granted to him had been cancelled under Section 21 of the Tribhuvan University Degree Recognition and Equivalence Regulations, 2082 BS.
