Tribhuvan University Calls for Quality Skill Development Education in Nepal

Kailali, November 6, 2023 – In a significant statement made at Ghodaghodi Multiple Campus on Monday, Pushparaj Joshi, the Controller of Examinations at Tribhuvan University, expressed concern over the escalating number of students leaving Nepal for overseas education. During the foundation stone laying ceremony for a new multi-purpose examination building at the campus, Joshi highlighted the urgent need for enhancing skill development education within the country.

Surge in Student Migration for Education

According to Joshi, there has been a marked increase in the number of students traveling abroad for higher studies, with approximately 62,000 students who passed class 12 and a notable 1 lakh 26 thousand post-COVID-19 opting for foreign education. This outflow is a clear indicator of the dissatisfaction among students regarding the pay scale and educational system in Nepal.

The Importance of Skill-Based Education

Emphasizing on the need to reverse this trend, Joshi stated that only 5 to 10 percent of students are likely to return after their studies abroad. He argued that Nepalese campuses need to prioritize skill-based and practical education to equip students with competencies aligned with industry requirements and to retain talent within the country.

Efficiency in Examination Processes

Furthermore, Joshi informed that the Examination Control Office has implemented a systematic calendar for conducting exams, publishing results, and issuing certificates within the academic year. This measure ensures a more organized and timely educational process. Additionally, he mentioned the removal of exam centers that failed to conduct proper examinations, stressing the importance of maintaining high standards in educational institutions.

Ghodaghodi Campus’s Examination Center Removal The Ghodaghodi Multiple Campus faced the removal of its examination center after 16 years due to certain unlawful activities detected during examination monitoring. This move reflects the university's commitment to upholding integrity and quality in the educational system.

The Path Forward

With the completion of the new examination building, funded by a 5 million rupee grant from the Far West Province Government, there is a significant stride towards enhancing the educational infrastructure. The involvement of key figures like Suman Gautam, Co-Controller of the Regional Examination Control Office in Nepalganj, and Gulia Kumari Chaudhary, Deputy Head of Ghodaghodi Municipality, signifies the collaborative effort to advance education in Nepal.

The ceremony, chaired by Bishnu Prasad Sapkota, Chairman of the Ghodaghodi Multiple Campus Management Committee, marked a milestone in Tribhuvan University's efforts to reform the examination system, emphasizing the mission to deliver quality education and retain the nation's future leaders.
