TU Psychology Department and FSU Sign Agreement to Establish Counselling Unit
The Central Department of Psychology at Tribhuvan University and the University Campus Free Students’ Union (FSU) have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a psychological counselling unit.
At a programme held on Friday, Head of the Department Sanjesh Shrestha signed the agreement on behalf of the department, while Chairperson Dipak Raj Joshi signed it on behalf of the FSU.
Under the agreement, students studying psychology will provide psychological counselling services to students enrolled in other departments under the TU Central Campus.
Objective of Establishing the Unit
FSU Chairperson Joshi said the initiative was taken in view of the increasing mental stress, anxiety, depression, and other psychosocial problems among students in the current social context.
The service is expected to contribute positively to students’ academic, personal, and social development by promoting students’ mental health, identifying problems, providing timely counselling, and arranging necessary support.
Main Terms and Provisions of the Agreement

Students enrolled in the Department of Psychology will use a room on the FSU office premises to conduct counselling programmes and apply their theoretical knowledge in practice.

The FSU will play a coordinating role in informing all departments that the counselling programme has begun.

After the FSU office is relocated to a new student-friendly building, it will continue its collaboration by providing rooms to the department so that the programme can continue.
Benefits for Psychology Students
Through the unit, psychology students will have an opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom in practical settings.
According to faculty member and senior psychologist Padam Raj Joshi, the practice will help students gain basic knowledge of general intake forms, OPD forms, and referral procedures required when they enter the professional workplace in the future.
Former Head of the Department Dr. Khem Raj Bhatta, faculty member Padam Raj Joshi, Administration Chief Nodnath Trital, and students from the third and fourth semesters attended the memorandum-signing programme.
