Imperial College of Engineering to Establish BIM-Digital Twin Technology Centre for Civil Engineering
Imperial College of Engineering is set to establish a new Centre of Excellence for BIM-Digital Twin Technology in the field of civil engineering.
As an initial step, the college organised an introductory session attended by senior engineers from Nepal. The session included discussions on the application of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Digital Twin Technology.
According to the college, the centre will connect real physical structures with the virtual digital world and advance the use of artificial intelligence in civil engineering.
The centre will mainly focus on the following areas:
AI-Driven Predictive Maintenance
The centre will use machine learning to analyse real-time data obtained from digital models and predict potential damage before it occurs in a structure.
Smart Infrastructure and Simulations
Real-world loads, weather conditions, and environmental impacts will be applied to virtual models for testing, helping engineers design safer and stronger structures.
Intelligent Automation
The centre will seek to streamline construction work through data-driven smart decisions and reduce the wastage of construction materials.
In collaboration with engineering experts, the college aims to narrow the gap between textbook knowledge and modern industrial technology.
The college stated that the technology would prepare students not only for the current job market but also to become qualified and capable of contributing to the development of future smart cities.
