Tribhuvan University (TU) has reclaimed more than 705 ropani of land in Kathmandu Valley that had been occupied for years by various government bodies, organizations, associations, and individuals. The land was brought back under the university's control within six months through the joint efforts of the Ministry of Education and Sports and Tribhuvan University.

Under the direct instructions, coordination, and active involvement of the Ministry of Education and Sports, TU issued a 35-day public ultimatum to vacate the encroached land. The land recovery campaign was carried out primarily on the basis of the report submitted by the TU Land Investigation Committee and the university's internal records.

During the campaign, unauthorized structures were vacated within the 35-day deadline, while areas with agreements that had not been renewed were brought under the university's direct control. As a result, land that had been used in violation of agreements for years, land covered by expired agreements, and land occupied without authorization was reclaimed.

Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel had prioritized the protection of university property and academic reforms after assuming leadership of the ministry. According to Minister Pokharel, the achievement was made possible through the ministry's initiative and the active involvement of the TU administration.

Minister Pokharel confirmed that 705 ropani of land had been reclaimed within Kathmandu Valley. He also stated that efforts were underway to recover other university land that remains occupied, including land located outside the valley.

Tribhuvan University is preparing to use the reclaimed land for the construction of modern laboratories, research centers, a central library, and other academic infrastructure in accordance with its master plan.
