United School Opens Second KUMON Lab

United School, described as one of the leading schools in Kathmandu, inaugurated its second KUMON Lab on Bhadra 30, 2083 (September 15, 2026). The high-tech learning space has been designed to strengthen students’ Math and English skills through independent study.

The lab was inaugurated by United School Founder Director Narahang Rai in the presence of Yusuke Yoshikawa, CEO of Colorbath, Japan, and Bikash Lama, CEO of IGC Holdings.

Founded in Japan in 1958 by Toru Kumon, KUMON is a self-learning method used worldwide to build a strong foundation in Math and Reading. Under the method, students receive personalized worksheets based on their individual learning pace. The approach is intended to encourage independent thinking, problem-solving skills, and confidence that can be applied beyond the classroom.

KUMON Labs are described as relatively uncommon in Nepal, and United School is said to be among the limited number of schools in the country offering the facility. The expansion has been described as significant in the local educational context.

United School's KUMON Lab has a dedicated teacher. The structured program begins from Year 2 (Grade 2), helping younger students develop numeracy and literacy skills as well as habits for lifelong learning from an early age.

The school has stated that the program forms part of its broader efforts in STEM education and robotics labs in line with global educational trends. These initiatives are intended to give students early exposure to practical knowledge and analytical thinking.

According to school officials, the opening of the second lab has expanded capacity for students already enrolled in the program while also creating opportunities for new students.

On the occasion, United School Principal Manoj Bishwakarma said:

“Real education begins only when children start learning independently. The opening of our second KUMON Lab is not just the introduction of another facility, but a bold step towards transforming the way children learn, think, and grow. By combining innovative technology, proven learning approaches, and the continued support of parents, we are developing confident and capable students who are prepared to lead in the future.”

United School has stated that the KUMON program will operate alongside its regular academic curriculum, providing enrolled students with opportunities for individualized practice in Math and English.

The school has also invited interested parents and students to join the program during the upcoming enrollment season.
