UWS Nepal Builds 18 New Schools in Gulmi, Enhancing Access to Quality Education

December 18, 2023, Gulmi, Nepal - United World Schools (UWS) Nepal has made a significant contribution to education in Gulmi by constructing 18 new school buildings across six local levels. Anuj Sigdel, the senior education officer of UWS Nepal, reported this notable achievement, which is part of the organization's initiative to promote quality education in the region.

The new school buildings are distributed across Resunga Municipality (6 schools), Musikot Municipality (2 schools), Madane Rural Municipality (3 schools), Dhurkot (4 schools), Malika (5 schools), and Ishma Rural Municipality (3 schools). Each school building, according to Sigdel, costs between NPR 35 to 45 lakhs to construct. Since its establishment in 2072, UWS Nepal has successfully built 72 school buildings in Gulmi, Taplejung, and Sankhuwasabha.

Sigdel highlighted the collaboration between UWS and local levels in fostering quality education. The organization is dedicated to bringing education to marginalized and backward children in rural areas, working tirelessly to reduce school dropout rates.

A key strategy in achieving this goal has been the formation of school retention teams. These teams are tasked with identifying and addressing the reasons behind student dropouts. Their efforts have been remarkably successful, with a 98% success rate in retaining students.

The project representative revealed that each school will operate under the project for five years before being handed over to local management. Natasa Kafle, the senior education manager at UWS Nepal, emphasized their commitment to laying a strong educational foundation at the basic level. Through their efforts, 1,341 students across the 18 schools have been connected to continuous education.

UWS Nepal's project, which currently operates in six local levels, is expanding. Programs based on demand are being planned for other local levels, furthering the organization's impact on education in Nepal.
