Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is providing Technical Assistance (TA) to the Government of Nepal (GoN) through the Department of Local Infrastructure (Doti) under the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA) for the implementation of Trail Bridge Sub Sector Programme (TBSSP) and Local Roads Bridge Programme (LRBP) in Nepal.
On behalf of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SLIC), Trail Bridge Support Unit (TESU)/Helvetas Nepal and Local Roads B.idgeSupport Unit (LRBSU)/AF—Iteoo, Switzerland providetheTedmicalAssistancetothe Govemment of Nepal for the implementation of TBSSPand LRBP respectively. The federal restructuring of the country provides a unique historic opportunity for local development in Nepal. The Local and Provincial governments enjoy unprecedented rights and functions with some exclusive authorities for the development of the trail and motorable bridges. With a broader objective to help the GoN in developing inclusive human resources with the required capacities in the areas of bridge-building, SDC intends to offer traineeship opportunities for fresh engineering graduates (diploma levels), to gain first-hand experience on bridge engineering and management in these two projects.
In this context, TBSU/Helvetas Nepal invites applications from interested and qualified Nepali Nationals (fresh graduates of diploma in civil engineering) for following traineeship positions:
Position : Trainee Sub-engineer- 35 positions
Purpose: Provide professional work exposure to the fresh graduates by providing guided work opportunity from the senior staff of TBSU and LRBSU. Get hands-on skill on Trail Bridge and Motorable Bridge survey, design, investigation, construction and have exposure in the fieldworks.
Qualification: Fresh Graduates completing Diploma in Civil Engineering with keen learning attitude, sense of responsibility and sensitivity towards the multicultural environment. No prior job experience required.
Duration: 9 months
Duty station: Provincial Offices of TBSU and LRBSU with frequent travel to the field (at least 70% of the time in the field). The field deputation will be done as per both projects' needs.
Major Roles and Responsibilities
The Trainee Sub-engineer will acquire in-depth knowledge, skills, and experience in Trail Bridge and Motorable Bridge area and s/he will be responsible to assist Trail Bridge and Motorable Bridge Engineer for:
- supporting provincial partners by co-working to provide technical assistance to the respective local and provincial governments;
- ensuring that local and provincial governments construct the trail and motorable bridges respectively in coherence with the National Bridge policy and strategies;
- planning, budgeting, survey, design, estimate, construction, monitoring and supervision, quality control and quality assurance of Trail and Motorable bridges
