The CIMMYT is seeking an experienced professional to support the Nepal Seed and Fertilizer project funded by USAID. The project aims is to increase food productivity of cereal-based cropping systems including high-value crops via formulating site-specific fertilizer recommendations, efficient fertilizer application technology identification and applied, and enhancing the capacity of stakeholders in seed and fertilizer value chains. Position Title: Research Associate/Assistant-Socio-Economics

Reference No: N19123

Duty Station: Kathmandu (with frequent travel to undertake fieldwork in rural areas)

The main responsibilities of this position will be:

  • Make substantial contributions to the development of structured questionnaires and other socioeconomic research instruments around seed and fertilizer technology adoption and impacts.
  • Conduct literature reviews, data cleaning, descriptive and econometric data analysis, and report and scientific publications.
  • Assist ME&L activities of the project and work closely with project partners in the project districts.

We are seeking candidates with the following qualification, skills, and attitudes:

  • Minimum of Masters' degree in Agricultural Economics (preferred) Economics, Development Economics, Agricultural/Rural Development, Statistics or related field.
  • At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection (including household surveys) and strong analytical skills. Sound econometrics and statistical knowledge with familiarity with software packages like Stata or R are required).
  • Sound knowledge of issues related to agricultural market and rural/ agricultural development policy.
  • Ability to travel and undertake fieldwork in rural contexts.
