VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

RTI International. the International Education Division. is currently accepting applications for a full-time Communication Specialist (one position) to support the Early Grade Reading Program (EGRP), a USAID-funded program to improve early grade reading in Nepal. The program works closely with and supports the Government of Nepal's design and initial implementation of a national education model that standardizes early grade reading in public schools. This position is based In Kathmandu.

The Communications Specialist will be a member of the communication team and provide technical assistance to technical and operations team on strategic planning In communication and storytelling related to the program's successes, lessons leamed, and contractual reports. H/She will contribute to the work planning and implementation plan. H/She will develop and maintain the editorial calendar, conduct interviews with team members for the report and visit sites and communities to document and capture the program's activities and progress. Reporting can be in the form of blogs, success stories, and reports. Use of visuals. i.e. infographics. pictures, graphics, and video should be considered in designing the reports. This position requires 20% field travel to the program districts.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Write articles on program activities including technical notes, best practices, case studies and lessons learned.
  • Contribute to the development and preparation of annual work plans. quarterly reports and other reports to partners and USAID; edit documents.
  • Develop other communication tools (newsletters, pamphlets, project briefs) as needed.
  • Identify appropriate ways to publicize and disseminate program related information and
  • Oversight and content for digital media, traditional media, and web-based communication.
  • Contribute to the work planning process for deadlines and creatives for reporting and documenting the activity.
  • Principle writer and editor for all materials related to the program and its progress.
  • Work with technical team to write success stories, lessons learned, and activity reports.
  • Collect and compile materials for sharing and submitting to RTI and USAID as required (such as for the Development Experience Clearinghouse (DEC).
  • Work closely with other team members to gather and synthesize program related technical information and data.
  • The track, monitor, measure and disseminate traditional and social (if relevant) media mentions.
  • Assure branding plan is followed on all program documents, reports, and public information
  • Promote knowledge sharing through the organization's processes, systems, and departments/units by helping develop and strengthen links between them to facilitate the exchange of information.
  • Assist in special events planning and execution.
  • Work with COP and RTI Home Office team to support and increase program visibility, both within RTI and externally.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

Master's degree in Communication/Social Science or related field with 3 years of experience or Bachelor's Degree in Communication/Social Science or related field with 6 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience in a program of similar nature
  • Working experience with USAID, DFID or other donor agency regulations highly preferred
  • Knowledge of USAID branding and marking policies a plus
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational and reporting skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships with all clients, peers, and stakeholders
  • Must be professionally proficient and fluent in written and spoken English and Nepali
  • Photography and photo/video editing skill Is an advantage
