Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology (CMLT) at Asian College for Advance Studies
The Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology (CMLT) was introduced at Asian College for Advance Studies in 2008 as a CTEVT-affiliated technical health program. In October 2022, ACAS transferred CMLT and its other CTEVT programs to its sister organization, Shankarapur Academy Pvt. Ltd., following changes connected with Nepal's medical education regulatory framework.
CMLT is a three-year, yearly-system program designed to prepare middle-level medical laboratory personnel for diagnostic and laboratory services.

Eligibility and Admission
Under the CTEVT CMLT curriculum, applicants may enter after passing SLC, SEE, or an equivalent qualification with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and grades in Compulsory Mathematics, English, and Science. TSLC graduates in Medical Laboratory Technology with a minimum of 68.33% are also included in the entry criteria.
Applicants must pass the entrance examination administered by CTEVT.
What Students Study
The three-year course moves from foundational science to laboratory-specific subjects and clinical practice. The second year includes Clinical Microbiology and Immunology, Hematology and Blood Banking, Clinical Biochemistry, Medical Parasitology, Clinical Pathology, and Public Health and First Aid, with theory and practical components.
Third-year study includes Histopathology and Cytopathology, Automation in Clinical Laboratory, and Clinical Laboratory Management. Students also complete clinical practice in microbiology and parasitology, hematology and blood banking, and biochemistry, histopathology, and cytopathology.
Clinical placements take place in hospital, laboratory, and blood-bank settings. Students maintain practical records and perform laboratory procedures under supervision during these placements.
Professional Direction
CMLT develops skills in specimen handling, laboratory testing, reagent preparation, laboratory quality control, instrument use, reporting, and laboratory management. Possible work settings include hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, clinics, blood banks, research centers, and other laboratory-based services.
