The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at Krishna Medical and Technical Research Centre is a four-year undergraduate nursing program affiliated with Purbanchal University. The program follows the university's revised 2019 nursing curriculum and combines nursing theory with laboratory, clinical, community, research, education, and management practice.

The course progresses from basic medical sciences and foundation nursing into medical-surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, community health, pediatric nursing, midwifery, research, educational science, leadership, and advanced medical-surgical nursing.
Krishna Medical and Technical Research Centre has its own 100-bed hospital for practicum. Its nursing education is accredited by the Nepal Nursing Council.

Course Overview

The four-year structure carries 141 theory credit hours and 122 practical credit hours. Teaching includes lectures, discussions, demonstrations, self-directed and problem-based learning, skill-lab simulation, field and clinical practice, assignments, project work, and presentations.

First Year: Nursing and Basic Health Sciences

The first year establishes the scientific base for nursing practice. Students study Anatomy and Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology/Parasitology, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Foundation of Nursing, and Community Health Nursing-I.

Practical study begins from the first year. Anatomy and Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology/Parasitology, Pathophysiology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Foundation of Nursing, and Community Health Nursing include practical or clinical components as assigned in the course structure.

This stage connects basic health sciences with nursing procedures, nutrition, community health, and the principles used in direct nursing care.

Second Year: Medical-Surgical, Psychiatric and Community Nursing

The second year shifts toward broader nursing practice through Nursing Concept and Theories, Medical-Surgical Nursing-I, Medical-Surgical Nursing-II, Psychiatric Nursing, Community Health Nursing-II, Medical Sociology/Anthropology, and Geriatric Nursing.

Medical-Surgical Nursing-II includes areas related to EENT, operating-theatre nursing, emergency care, and skin-related nursing. Psychiatric Nursing, Community Health Nursing-II, Medical-Surgical Nursing, and Geriatric Nursing include practical components alongside classroom study.

The addition of Geriatric Nursing as a separate subject is part of the revised curriculum structure.

Third Year: Pediatric Nursing, Midwifery and Community Health

Third-year study places substantial emphasis on maternal, child, reproductive, and community health. Subjects are Pediatric Nursing, Midwifery-I, Midwifery-II, Midwifery-III, Community Health Nursing-III, Basic Epidemiology, and Gynaecology Nursing.

Pediatric Nursing, all three Midwifery courses, Community Health Nursing-III, and Gynaecology Nursing carry practical components. The third year therefore combines nursing theory with extended clinical and community-based practice.

Midwifery and community health form major parts of the program's overall nursing focus alongside hospital nursing and family and reproductive health.

Fourth Year: Research, Education, Management and Advanced Nursing

The fourth year brings together clinical practice with research, teaching, and nursing management. Students study Research and Biostatistics in Nursing, Educational Science, Leadership and Management, and Medical-Surgical Nursing-III (Advance).

Advanced Medical-Surgical Nursing covers cardiopulmonary, oncology, nephrology, and neurology areas. Each fourth-year subject includes practical work, with substantial practical hours assigned to research, educational science, leadership and management, and advanced medical-surgical nursing.

Research training is intended to develop the ability to identify nursing-related research problems and carry out basic research activities, while leadership and educational components extend the course beyond bedside nursing into management and teaching functions.

Clinical and Practical Learning

Clinical and field learning runs throughout the four-year program rather than being confined to the final stage. Practical work is integrated into foundation nursing, community health nursing, medical-surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, geriatric nursing, pediatric nursing, midwifery, gynaecology nursing, research, educational science, leadership and management, and advanced medical-surgical nursing.
Krishna Medical and Technical Research Centre provides hospital-based practicum through its own 100-bed hospital. The hospital provides emergency, surgical, maternity, diagnostic imaging, and specialty services. Clinical and community placements remain subject to the practical requirements assigned to individual nursing subjects.

The centre also provides hostel accommodation, a library, laboratories, counselling, placement service, conference and multimedia facilities, and scholarship support.

Teaching and Assessment

The nursing program uses a participatory teaching approach that includes lectures, group discussion, demonstration, observation, simulation in the skill laboratory, self-directed learning, problem-based learning, field and clinical practice, written assignments, project work, and presentations.

Theory subjects use internal assessment for 20% of the total marks and final assessment for 80%. Practical evaluation is divided equally between internal and final evaluation. Practical assessment may include project work, performance evaluation, case studies, presentations, client teaching, student teaching, nursing care plans, procedure evaluation, logbooks, OSPE/OSCE or simulation, and viva according to the subject requirements.

Eligibility and Admission

Applicants are required to have completed Intermediate Science, 10+2, or A Level with Biology, with an equivalent C+ or 50% aggregate. Applicants must also have completed 17 years of age and meet the stated physical and mental fitness requirement.
Admission at Krishna Medical and Technical Research Centre follows MECEE-BL and the prevailing rules of the Medical Education Commission (MEC), Nepal. Applicants must meet the entrance, eligibility, matching, and other admission requirements applicable to the relevant MEC admission cycle.

Candidates participating in the matching process may select Krishna Medical and Technical Research Centre Pvt. Ltd. according to the applicable matching arrangements.

A 20-seat annual intake is stated for B.Sc. Nursing; however, the MEC seat allocation approved for the relevant admission cycle governs the actual intake. Fees, scholarship provisions, seat distribution, and admission procedures may also change according to MEC decisions and the applicable calendar.

Nursing Competencies and Academic Emphasis

The program develops nursing knowledge and practical ability across preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative care. Its academic objectives also cover communication, nursing-process application, community participation, health-system research and management, teaching, leadership, epidemiological concepts, family and reproductive health, primary health care, and nursing and midwifery practice.

The curriculum places particular emphasis on hospital nursing, midwifery nursing, and community health nursing while also preparing students for responsibilities connected with education, management, research, and direct care.

Professional Licensing

Graduates must meet the licensing requirements of the Nepal Nursing Council before entering regulated professional nursing practice.

Completion of the university degree and completion of the professional licensing process are separate requirements for professional entry.
