Academic Structure
The B.Pharm curriculum is built around three broad areas: basic sciences, basic medical sciences, and pharmaceutical sciences.
Basic sciences include areas such as inorganic pharmaceutical chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, and mathematics. Basic medical sciences cover anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, and pathophysiology.
Pharmaceutical study extends into pharmaceutical chemistry and instrumental analysis, pharmacognosy and natural products, pharmacology and pharmacotherapeutics, hospital and clinical pharmacy, community pharmacy, physical pharmacy, pharmaceutics, and dosage-form design. Practical and laboratory work forms a regular part of pharmacy study. The curriculum also includes visits and observations in hospitals, pharmaceutical industries, drug regulatory bodies, research laboratories, community pharmacies, and drug-distribution settings where required.
Seminar, Project Work and Internship
Seminar work is included in the fifth and sixth semesters. Students work with topics connected to scientific publications, review articles, case studies, and related pharmacy subjects.
The eighth semester includes a six-credit project. Students undertake literature review and research work, prepare a project report under academic supervision, and defend the completed project.
A six-credit professional internship is also included in the final semester. Internship or training may take place in hospital and community pharmacy settings, pharmaceutical industries, quality-control laboratories, and other areas specified by the curriculum.
Krishna Medical and Technical Research Centre has laboratories, a library, multimedia facilities, and its own 100-bed hospital, providing an institutional setting relevant to practical health-science education.
