Overview
CMLT program at Ram Janaki Technical Institute
The CMLT program at Ram Janaki Technical Institute develops mid-level laboratory personnel for routine clinical testing under the CTEVT framework. The course blends theory with practical sessions that mirror common tasks performed in clinical labs, with a consistent focus on safety, specimen integrity, and accurate reporting within the diploma scope.
Curriculum Focus
Key domains include hematology (cell counts, blood indices principles), clinical biochemistry (basic analytes and interpretation at the diploma level), microbiology (culture principles, staining, and sensitivity concepts), parasitology, immunology basics, and blood collection techniques. The curriculum trains students to collect, label, transport, and process specimens following standard procedures, maintain registers, and apply basic quality control concepts suitable for routine testing.
Laboratory & Practical Training
RJTI’s science lab is used for phlebotomy demonstrations, slide preparation, staining techniques, and routine analyses appropriate to the CMLT scope. Students practice equipment handling, calibration checks (as guided), and waste segregation using color-coded bins. Emphasis is placed on biosafety, PPE use, disinfection, and incident reporting. Faculty supervision and step-wise demonstrations help learners build reliable technique.
Teaching–Learning Approach
Instruction combines board explanations, visual charts, and multimedia steps for procedures. Learners maintain lab notebooks with observations, results, and reflections on error prevention. Group work and case-based discussions strengthen understanding of pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases in daily laboratory practice.
Assessment & Records
Evaluations include internal tests, practical exams, viva, and final examinations as per CTEVT. Students complete logbooks for sample handling, test runs, quality checks, and maintenance of daily registers. Feedback focuses on accuracy, timing, safety compliance, and clarity in result entry.
Facilities & Student Support
The library contains course texts, reference materials, and past papers. The institute provides counseling, academic notices, and orientation sessions in the conference hall.
First-aid support and safety briefings are integrated into lab routines. Scholarship facilitation notices are shared by the academic office according to institutional procedures.
Graduate Readiness
On completion, learners can support routine investigations in clinical labs, manage specimen flow, apply safety practices, and maintain records in line with CTEVT standards. The course prepares students for diploma-level roles under supervision across basic laboratory sections.
