Geomatics engineering is an academic discipline which deals with geospatial data in its collection, processing, and visualization. Geomatics technical persons in Nepal were mainly engaged in the land survey/ land management sector and as survey professionals in big construction projects. But with the advancement, its scope of application is expanding even more in the sectors like Photogrammetric surveying, Hydrographic surveying, LIDAR surveying, etc.
Professionals in this field utilize highly sophisticated tools and technologies like Theodolite, Total station, GPS (DGPS), UAV, Geographic information system along with the traditional surveying equipment like plane tables, chains, etc.
As per the vision of CTEVT, Shankharapur polytechnic institute started the diploma in Geomatics engineering course to reach the rural community level to enroll the students in this discipline and produce the middle-level Geomatics engineering professionals with the ability to work in the collection of spatial data by utilizing the present-day surveying equipment and be familiar with emerging high-tech tools, be able to deal with the issues regarding the land management with the knowledge of National land-related policies, laws and directives.
This course is based on the job required to perform by a Geomatics technician at different related industries and organizations in Nepal and abroad. The Diploma in Geomatics Engineering program extends over three years. Each year is divided into two semesters. There are six semesters in total within the period of three years.
It is designed to produce middle-level competent Geomatics technicians equipped with knowledge and skills related to land surveying, engineering/ construction surveying, and Geographical Information systems and applications. The study of Geomatics Engineering provides ample opportunities for employment and self-employment in the field of surveying, mapping, and GIS.
Eligibility Criteria:
SLC Pass or SLC/SEE with a minimum C grade in Compulsory Mathematics & Science and D+ in Compulsory English. TSLC in Survey Engineering with minimum 66.68%.
Scholarship:
A scholarship facility is available for deserving and needy students on the basis of the national-level scholarship entrance examination.
