Overview
Tarakeshwor Municipality is located in the northern part of Kathmandu District, at the foot of Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. It was formed by merging the former Sangla, Kavresthali, Jitpurphedi, Goldhunga, Dharmasthali, Futung, and Manmaiju VDCs. The municipality began functioning on Mangsir 16, 2071 BS after the decision of the Government of Nepal, Council of Ministers.
The municipality covers 34.95 square kilometers and is organized into 11 wards. Its administrative center is in Dharmasthali Bazaar, Ward No. 6. Tarakeshwor Municipality is named after Tarkeshwar Mahadev, a religious site located in Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park.

Location and Boundaries
Tarakeshwor Municipality lies in northern Kathmandu District. It is situated near Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park and shares boundaries with neighboring local levels and districts.
Its eastern boundary connects with Tokha Municipality, while the western boundary connects with Nagarjun Municipality. Nuwakot District lies to the north, and Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Ward No. 16, lies to the south.

Formation and Administrative Structure
Tarakeshwor Municipality was formed by merging the former Sangla, Kavresthali, Jitpurphedi, Goldhunga, Dharmasthali, Futung, and Manmaiju VDCs. At the time of its declaration as a municipality, it was divided into 21 wards. It is now organized into 11 wards.
The administrative center is located at Dharmasthali Bazaar in Ward No. 6.
