The government has announced plans to expand physical infrastructure at 109 community schools across Nepal that have achieved excellent academic results and have more than 2,000 students enrolled. Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel said Rs 6.54 billion has been allocated in the current fiscal year to strengthen infrastructure at these schools.
Under the infrastructure expansion plan, Rs 5.34 billion has been released for 89 schools in the first phase, and the process of constructing new school buildings has been initiated.
The plan includes constructing three-storey buildings with 12 rooms each at an estimated cost of Rs 60 million per school. According to Minister Pokharel, the new buildings will have modern classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, and libraries. The initiative aims to provide students with a safe and well-organized learning environment.
The government has prioritized infrastructure improvements at larger schools to address disparities in student enrollment among community schools. While some schools have a high concentration of students, others are struggling with declining enrollment. The government has therefore decided to begin infrastructure upgrades at schools with larger student populations.
Minister Pokharel also expressed the government's commitment to gradually improving educational quality and physical infrastructure across all community schools in the country, with the aim of ensuring more equitable standards nationwide.
