Bagmati Province Government Provides Technical Higher Education Scholarships to 7 Students from Poor Families
The Bagmati Province Government has provided technical higher education scholarships to seven students from marginalized and poor families. Under the educational scholarship program launched to expand access to technical education among students from poor communities, scholarships were distributed to the students selected in the first phase during a program held in Lalitpur on Tuesday.
As announced by the first meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya, the Ministry of Social Development issued the “Educational Scholarship Directive, 2083” and brought this program into implementation.
Students who had passed the SEE from community secondary schools, were permanent residents of Bagmati Province, and had been recommended by the concerned authority as belonging to poor or marginalized communities were considered eligible for this scholarship. Among the students who applied on the basis of the notice published in Gorkhapatra on Jestha 27, students were selected on the basis of merit order and the criteria set by the directive.
According to the Directorate, applications had been invited for seven technical fields, but no applications were received for the Ayurveda Doctor, Information Technology Engineering, and Staff Nurse categories. In the remaining four categories, seven students were selected.

Scholarship Management and Service Condition
A selection committee was formed under the coordination of the Director General to manage the scholarship. For the scholarship provided at the bachelor’s level, arrangements have been made for the government to send the tuition fee directly to the bank account of the concerned educational institution in three installments of 35 percent, 40 percent, and 25 percent.
Under this program, after completing their studies on scholarship, students are required to serve as volunteers in public service sectors within Bagmati Province for at least one year and up to two years.
Speaking at the program, Chief Minister Baniya said that the provincial government had expanded the scholarship program through its own policy for students from marginalized and poor families who were not covered by the federal government’s policy. Stating that the government was working to end the situation in which students had to be deprived of education due to financial constraints or had to study by taking loans, he said, “You struggle for life; the Bagmati Government is there to educate your children.”
Mentioning that people from marginalized communities did not receive such opportunities under the past unitary state system and during the rule of the Ranas and kings, Chief Minister Baniya expressed the belief that this scholarship was not only financial assistance but also a long-term human capital development plan to produce skilled human resources needed for the province.
