Community Schools in Bhojpur Put Skills First
Community schools across Bhojpur are leaning into technical education to make learning practical and tied to real work. The goal is simple: help students gain skills they can use for jobs or self-employment.
What’s changing
Most secondary-level community schools now offer technical subjects from Grade 9 to Grade 12. Alongside regular classes, students spend more time learning by doing—on school grounds and in nearby fields.
Schools running these programs include:
-
Panchakanya Secondary School, Chyangre
-
Yashodhara Secondary School, Taksar
-
Panchakanya Secondary School, Bhulne
-
Siddheshwar Secondary School, Dawal
-
and several others in the district
Voices from the schools
Dhruvaraj Regmi, Principal of Yashodhara Secondary School, says the shift toward hands-on, technology-friendly teaching helps keep learning relevant. According to him, this approach supports students who want to become self-reliant through work and small enterprises.
Tekraj Bhattarai, Chair of the Panchakanya School Management Committee, adds that the focus is moving away from purely traditional methods toward practical, tech-supported lessons that students can apply outside the classroom.
Results on the ground
Interest in technical studies is growing. In a recent Grade 12 result:
-
60 students sat for exams
-
49 passed in the technical stream
-
11 passed in the general stream
To give students real practice, schools have set aside land inside the campus and leased additional plots. Students learn by running small agricultural projects, such as:
-
Akabare chili cultivation
-
Mushroom and tomato farming
-
Improved rice and maize production methods
-
Fish farming
-
Cauliflower and avocado cultivation
-
Other crop-based activities as part of practical sessions
Why it matters
Teachers and school leaders say this model helps students build usable skills, meet local needs, and contribute to a skilled workforce. It also supports the broader policy push for technical and vocational education at the secondary level.
