Biraj Singh Thapa Appointed Registrar of Kathmandu University

The government has appointed Biraj Singh Thapa as Registrar of Kathmandu University. Prime Minister and University Chancellor Balendra Shah appointed Thapa to the post on the recommendation of the University's Vice-Chancellor.

Newly appointed Registrar Thapa took the oath of office and secrecy today at a program organized at the Ministry of Education and Sports.

Thapa had been serving as an Associate Professor at Kathmandu University for the past 22 years. He holds a PhD in Hydropower from Norway.

At the oath-taking ceremony, Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel instructed the newly appointed official to work with teamwork and proactiveness to improve the University. He said it was necessary to move forward with the process of establishing Kathmandu University under a specialized trustee model.

Minister Pokharel said strong coordination and cooperation among all universities are necessary to improve higher education in Nepal. Stating that Kathmandu University should move forward with an identity distinct from other universities, he emphasized that the University has an important role in providing quality education within Nepal to students preparing to go abroad after Grade 12.

At the same program, Education Ministry Secretary Chudamani Paudel expressed confidence that the newly appointed official would play an important role in transforming the University and making its work results-oriented.
