Local Curriculum to Be Implemented in Janakpurdham Schools through Maithili Language
From the upcoming academic session, the local curriculum ‘Appan Janakpurdham’ will be taught through the Maithili language from Grades 1 to 8 in both community schools and institutional (private) schools operating within Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City.
According to the sub-metropolitan city, this textbook will be implemented compulsorily from Grades 1 to 3 in the current academic session and up to Grade 8 in the upcoming academic session.
The sub-metropolitan city has stated that final preparations have been completed for implementing the curriculum, which has been prepared with the aim of connecting local history, language, literature, art, culture, religious heritage, and original identity with school education. During a program held on Friday, curriculum author Dr. Hem Prasad Sah formally handed over the curriculum to Mayor Manoj Kumar Sah.
Receiving the curriculum, Mayor Sah said that it would be implemented compulsorily in all schools within the sub-metropolitan city. Stating that students would gain fact-based knowledge about their own language, history, culture, and religious and cultural heritage through it, he said, “The Maithili language curriculum will also develop a sense of pride and belonging toward one’s identity.”
According to Anju Pandey, Head of the Education Branch of Janakpurdham and coordinator of the curriculum writing and drafting committee, the curriculum has been prepared in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Operation Act and the National Curriculum Development and Evaluation Council, keeping local needs, language, culture, and identity at the center.
The curriculum includes topics related to Janakpurdham’s historical, religious, and cultural heritage, local language, literature, art, festivals, social values and norms, natural heritage, and local lifestyle. Pandey said it is expected to contribute to the preservation and promotion of local knowledge, skills, and culture.
Shyam Sundar Shashi, Sunil Mallik, and Binita Thakur contributed as experts in the development of this curriculum, which was prepared under the leadership of Education Branch Chief Pandey.
