KMC Sees Rise in Community School Enrolment This Year
Kathmandu. The number of children coming to enroll in community schools within Kathmandu Metropolitan City has increased significantly this year. According to the Education Department of the metropolis, a total of 1,115 new children began learning letters on the occasion of Saraswati Puja this year.
According to Keshav Gyawali, Acting Chief of the Education Department, this figure is 144 higher than last year. On the same day last year, 971 children began learning letters. Among those who began learning letters this year, there are 525 girls and 590 boys.
Among the 87 community schools within the metropolis, all schools except those inside prisons are running Early Childhood Development (ECD) classes.
The schools with the highest number of children beginning learning letters include:

Gyanodaya Secondary School (Bafal): 87

Neelbarahi Secondary School (Tankeshwor): 50

Bhanu Secondary School (Ranipokhari): 42
Participating in a program held at Gyanodaya Secondary School, Acting Mayor of the metropolis Sunita Dangol said that the metropolis has prioritized strengthening the foundation for the overall development of children in a child-friendly environment.
She said, “Policies and programs have been designed to produce competitive human resources through community schools. Since investment has been increased in resources, facilities, equipment, and human resource development, excellent results will be achieved from the schools.”
It has been stated that the attraction towards community schools has increased because the metropolis has managed Early Childhood Development facilitators based on the number of students and improved the level of child-centered learning.
Acting Chief Gyawali informed that if the children who began learning letters want to come to school immediately, classroom arrangements have been managed. However, formal admission for regular classes will take place in the month of Baisakh.
