National Academic Calendar Implemented to Organize University Academic Activities; Timeline Set Up to Result Publication
To make academic activities in higher education organized, planned, and effective, the University Grants Commission has developed and implemented a National Academic Calendar. The Ministry of Education and Sports approved the new National Academic Calendar on Tuesday through a minister-level decision by revising the calendar that had previously been in implementation.
The commission stated that this calendar has been implemented in coordination with universities to make academic activities such as admission, teaching, examinations, and result publication in universities integrated and timetable-based. The commission believes that implementation of the integrated National Academic Calendar will bring improvement in university education.
The ministry has decided to issue circulars to all universities through the University Grants Commission for necessary implementation. According to the commission’s Deputy Director Ramesh Prasad Adhikari, with the implementation of the revised National Academic Calendar, academic activities in universities will be conducted according to the determined timetable.
Background of Calendar Implementation
The government’s hundred-day work agenda on governance reform had set a target of publishing the results of bachelor’s and master’s examinations conducted by universities according to the calendar provided by the ministry. The same target has been implemented through the University Grants Commission.
Earlier, the academic calendar prepared by the commission had been approved and implemented through a minister-level decision on Bhadra 29, 2080. To make timely improvements in line with changing academic needs, the commission had formed an academic calendar revision committee. Based on the decision and recommendation of the same committee dated Jestha 12, 2083, necessary amendments were made to the calendar and a proposal was sent to the ministry for approval.
The calendar will be implemented in accordance with Section 6, Sub-section (1), Clauses (d), (e), and (f) of the University Grants Commission Act, 2050. In addition, necessary subjects will be included in accordance with the Essential Services Operation Act, 2014, and universities will be instructed for implementation.
