Nawalparasi Schools Begin Classes Early

Nawalparasi East Local Levels Start School Classes Ahead of Federal Schedule

Most local levels in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East) have started regular teaching and learning activities in schools before the timetable set by the federal government.

The federal government had decided to launch the student enrollment campaign for the academic session 2083 from Baisakh 15 and to conduct regular classes only from Baisakh 21. However, local levels in the district started classes earlier, saying that the number of teaching days would decrease because Sundays are also public holidays, affecting the academic calendar.

Madhyabindu Municipality had already started teaching and learning from Baisakh 7. According to Municipal Education Officer Padamraj Acharya, the mayor facilitated the start of classes at the request of the head teachers of community schools.

After a meeting of head teachers decided to run the enrollment campaign from Baisakh 2 to 6 and begin regular classes from Baisakh 7, teaching and learning activities are now taking place in all community and institutional schools of Madhyabindu.

Similarly, Kawasoti Municipality, Gaindakot Municipality, and Hupsekot Rural Municipality have also opened schools earlier. According to Kawasoti Municipality Education Officer Rajan Pandey, schools within the municipality have already started regular classes from Tuesday.

Hupsekot Rural Municipality Education Section Chief Madhavraj Gautam said regular teaching and learning started in his municipality from Wednesday.

Bulingtar Rural Municipality and Baudikali Rural Municipality of the district are set to begin regular teaching activities from Thursday, Baisakh 10. Baudikali Rural Municipality Education Section Chief Jivalal Bhusal said the executive meeting decided to start classes in schools from Baisakh 10 at the request of parents.

Meanwhile, Devchuli Municipality and Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality of the district have decided not to go against the federal government’s directive. Ram Prasad Sharma, Under-Secretary at the Education, Youth and Sports Section of Devchuli Municipality, said the proposal to move school classes forward was discussed in the executive meeting but could not be passed.

The Constitution has granted local levels authority over education up to the secondary level. Based on the same authority, local levels have opened schools according to their convenience.

However, as schools are opening on different dates across municipalities within the same district, parents have become confused about which schedule should be considered official.
