Nepal Wins First-Ever Award at 23rd International Linguistics Olympiad

Nepal has won an award for the first time at the 23rd International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL), held in Bucharest, Romania. Pragyan Devkota, representing Nepal in the competition, received an Honorable Mention.

With this achievement, Nepal has secured its first award in the history of its participation in the competition.

Participation of the Nepali Team

The competition brought together leading secondary-level competitors from around the world. Students representing Nepal participated in both individual and team competitions.

Result of Nearly a Decade of Effort

Chandan Gupta, co-founder and co-chair of the Himalayan Computational, Linguistic and AI Olympiad in Nepal (HLON), described the achievement as the result of nearly a decade of continuous effort.

Gupta started the linguistics olympiad in Nepal in 2017. He said that the initial years were focused solely on establishing the platform and described the success achieved on an international stage such as the IOL as the realization of his long-term vision.

The organizer also stated that the achievement represented the realization of Gupta's vision.

HLON's work spans computational linguistics, linguistics, and artificial intelligence (AI) through its olympiad activities in Nepal.
