Nepal Sanskrit University organized a greetings exchange program on its premises ahead of Vijayadashami (Dashain), Yamapanchak (Tihar), and Chhath, three major festivals celebrated in Nepal.

The program was chaired by University Registrar Prof. Dr. Nawaraj Kattel, with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhim Prasad Khatiwada attending as the chief guest. Rector Prof. Dr. Jagannath Regmi, heads of various departments, professors, and university employees also participated.

During the program, participants expressed their belief that the festivals of Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath help strengthen mutual brotherhood, social harmony, cooperation, and tolerance.

Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khatiwada extended his wishes for good health, happiness, longevity, peace, prosperity, and continued progress to all university officials, heads of institutions and departments, professors, employees, students, and Nepali citizens on the occasions of Vijayadashami, Deepawali, and Chhath.

He said these festivals are not merely religious and cultural observances but also represent traditional principles rooted in humanity and the spiritual well-being of all existence.

Speaking as the program chair, Registrar Prof. Dr. Nawaraj Kattel described Nepal as a Vedic country where the fundamental characteristics of Vedic religion and Sanskrit traditions can still be observed.

He said the religious rituals and worship of divine power performed during Navratri are believed to promote the welfare of all castes, ethnic communities, and living beings.

According to him, Vijayadashami symbolizes the victory of divine forces over demonic forces and the triumph of truth over falsehood.

Prof. Dr. Kattel further explained that both divine and demonic tendencies exist within human beings. He said individuals themselves have the power to decide which tendencies to overcome and which to encourage.

He also emphasized that all nine days of Navratri hold special importance for the worship and spiritual practice of divine power and the attainment of spiritual accomplishments.

Discussing Yamapanchak, Prof. Dr. Kattel said each day of the festival, including Deepawali, carries significance in terms of the welfare, respect, and worship of living beings.

He described Chhath as a festival dedicated to the special worship of Surya Dev (the Sun God), revered in Hindu tradition as the creator, sustainer, and destroyer of the universe.

Concluding his remarks, Prof. Dr. Kattel expressed his wish that these festivals bring well-being to the entire university community, the nation, and the wider world.
