Newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Sunil Kumar Joshi and Registrar Dr. Bhim Bahadur Chand of Shahid Dasharath Chand Health Sciences University in Geta, Kailali, have taken the oath of office and secrecy.
At a special ceremony held at the Ministry of Education on Wednesday, Co-Chancellor and Minister for Education and Sports Sasmita Pokharel administered the oath to the newly appointed officials.
A meeting of the University Assembly held earlier on Wednesday appointed Prof. Dr. Joshi, who ranked first in the recommendation committee’s order of merit, as Vice-Chancellor and Dr. Chand as Registrar.
At the meeting, recommendation committee coordinator Prof. Dr. Jayaraj Awasthi submitted the sealed report containing the order of merit through Minister Pokharel, who also serves as Co-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Assembly. Minister Pokharel then announced the recommended names and informed the meeting of the appointments.
Under Section 25 of the Shahid Dasharath Chand Health Sciences University Act, the recommendation committee must recommend three candidates in order of merit. The legal provision requires the candidate ranked first to be appointed.
Health and Food Hygiene Minister Nisha Mehta, another Co-Chancellor of the University, was also present at the meeting.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Pokharel said the recommendation process involving 10 experts from the medical field had been completed in a fair, impartial, and transparent manner based on an assessment conducted by experts from the same field.
The Minister also expressed confidence that academic and administrative activities, including teaching and learning, would begin at the University this year under the leadership of the newly appointed officials.
