Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), Currency Management Department, has brought the new Rs. 1,000 denomination banknote (Series 2025) into circulation from Ashoj 8, 2083.
In a notice published on 2083/06/08, the central bank said the new banknote retains the existing size but comes with a revised color scheme consisting of light green within a purple border. The new notes will carry serial numbers from ट/९२ ०००००१ to त/५० ९९९९९९.
Features on the Front of the Banknote

The central section contains the promissory statement: “Shree Nepal Rastra Bank, backed by the guarantee of the Government of Nepal, will immediately pay Rs. 1,000 (Rupees One Thousand) on demand at Nepal Rastra Bank.”

An image of Mount Everest appears on the left side of the note. A rhododendron watermark is placed on the right, with a “1000” watermark below it.

A blue-colored partial “1000” See Through Register appears on the right side. When the note is held against light, the complete figure “1000” becomes visible.

To make the denomination easier to identify by touch for visually impaired people, the lower-right section contains the Roman letter “M,” representing one thousand. There are also 10 horizontal Angular Lines on the left side of Mount Everest and another 10 on the right side of the watermark.

To the right of Mount Everest, an image of Bhagwati appears inside an oval shape. It looks golden when viewed directly and green when the note is tilted.

The note contains a 3.5 mm-wide security thread that appears red when viewed directly and green when tilted. The thread has a Movement/Dynamic Effect and contains the inscriptions “NRB” and “1000.”

The banknote bears the signature of Governor Prof. Dr. Biswo Nath Poudel. The lower section carries the series number “B.S. 2082.”
Features on the Reverse of the Banknote

The central section features images of the rare twin elephants known as “Ram” and “Laxman,” born to an elephant named “Devkali” among the Nepali elephants kept at the government elephant facility in Chitwan district. The words “NEPAL RASTRA BANK” appear above the image.

To the right of the watermark on the left side, seven rhododendron images are used to represent Nepal’s seven provinces.

The right side carries the words “RUPEES ONE THOUSAND” and an image of the historically significant pillar located at Lhaun Chowk in Hanuman Dhoka.

The lower border of the banknote carries the series number “2025 A.D.”
Clarification on the Previous Series and New Serial Numbers
Nepal Rastra Bank said it had earlier published a notice on Shrawan 7, 2077, stating that Rs. 1,000 denomination banknotes under Series 2019, carrying serial numbers from ज/६८ ०००००१ to ट/१०० ९९९९९९, would be brought into circulation.
However, only banknotes carrying serial numbers from ज/६८ ०००००१ to ट/९१ ४४०००० were actually brought into circulation.
For this reason, NRB said the new Rs. 1,000 denomination banknote under Series 2025 begins with serial number ट/९२ ०००००१.
The central bank concluded its notice with the message: “Banknotes are the nation’s property; let us take care of them.”
