National Identity Card of Nepal

Online Voter Registration Now Possible Through National ID

Citizens in Nepal can now register themselves in the voter list by using their national identity card and filling in their own details online.

Sharing an update through social media, Prime Minister Sushila Karki announced that a new facility has been introduced which allows citizens to register their names in the voter list directly through an online system.

No Need for a Separate Biometric Visit

According to the information made public, citizens who already have a national identity card no longer need to visit the office solely for biometric registration after filling out the pre-registration form on the Election Commission’s website.

Under this new arrangement, the voter registration process will be completed in four distinct stages.

Four-Stage Online Voter Registration Process

In the first stage, the details from the national identity card will be verified and then linked with the voter identity card.

In the second stage, the displayed details will be reviewed once again, and any errors found can be corrected.

In the third stage, voters will be able to select their polling station. If their address has changed because of moving to a new place or due to marriage, they will be able to upload the necessary supporting documents.

In the fourth and final stage, all details will be checked one last time. After the form is submitted online, the process of registering the voter’s name in the voter list will be considered complete.
