Ghorahi Municipality Orders All Schools to Open from Baisakh 8
The Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan Office has requested that all community and institutional schools resume regular operations starting from Baisakh 8, 2082.
Decision from the Municipal Meeting
On Sunday, Mayor Narulal Chaudhary chaired a meeting that decided that schools must operate from Baisakh 8 according to the academic calendar. Narayan Paudel, the Head of the Education Division, provided this information.
Official Notification Issued
He released a public notice instructing community and institutional schools to reopen as per the calendar on Baisakh 8. He further informed us that monitoring would also be conducted to ensure schools were operating as instructed.
Community School Enrollment Affected by Protests
Across the country, teachers' ongoing protests have caused uncertainty in enrollment campaigns at community schools. While institutional schools are actively running enrollment campaigns, most community schools in the district remain empty.
Despite the annual exam results being published a while ago, enrollment campaigns have not started in many community schools, leading to dissatisfaction among parents.
Private Schools Taking Advantage of the Situation
Bikash Chaudhary, Chairperson of the Padyamodaya Public Model Secondary School's Management Committee, noted that private schools are taking advantage of the teacher protests.
"Community school teachers are currently involved in the movement," he said. "Meanwhile, institutional school teachers visit homes and conduct widespread enrollment campaigns. What kind of impact will this have on enrollment in community schools?"
Questions on Teachers’ Commitment
He also raised concerns about teachers sending their children to private schools. "There are accusations that teachers themselves do not trust the education of the schools where they teach," he stated.
He suggested that perhaps the nature of the protest should be reconsidered, and teachers should return to the enrollment campaign. Otherwise, he warned, there might be allegations of cooperation with private schools.
"If we do not plant rice in the monsoon, how can we expect to harvest crops in winter?" he asked.
