Tribhuvan University Approves Rs. 30.87 Billion Budget for FY 2083/84

The Senate of Tribhuvan University (TU) has approved a total budget of Rs. 30,871,108,000 for the fiscal year 2083/84. The approved budget is 9.77 percent higher than that of the previous fiscal year.

Budget Sources and Expenditure Allocation

According to the approved budget, the university expects to finance its total expenditure through internal revenue and funding from the Government of Nepal.

  • Internal Sources: 49.38 percent, equivalent to Rs. 15,242,705,000.
  • Government Funding: 50.62 percent, equivalent to Rs. 15,628,403,000.

Of the total budget, 86.14 percent has been allocated for regular operating expenses, while 13.86 percent has been earmarked for capital expenditure.

The university has also allocated Rs. 217,789,000 for training programs, seminars, and workshops aimed at improving the skills and technological proficiency of faculty members and administrative staff.

University Faces Financial Pressure and Budget Shortfall

Tribhuvan University has indicated that it could face financial difficulties because the government grant allocated for the fiscal year is Rs. 4.90 billion lower than the previous year's allocation.

The university reported a total budget shortfall of Rs. 8,317,747,000, including the amount required to manage a 10 percent salary increase and a 10 percent incentive allowance for teaching and non-teaching staff.

University Appeals to Chancellor and Prime Minister

The university has warned that it may be unable to meet even its mandatory financial obligations if the funding shortfall is not addressed.

In view of the financial situation, Tribhuvan University has requested its Chancellor, who is also the Prime Minister, to arrange the additional funds required to meet its financial commitments.
