Tribhuvan University Faced a Financial Crisis

Tribhuvan University has faced a financial crisis due to the government not providing enough budget. Due to an insufficient budget, Tribhuvan University has not been able to send pensions to retired professors and staff since July 2022.

Speaking at the opening of the 4th National Conference of the University Alumni Association, University Registrar Prof. Dr. Peshal Dahal said that the pension could not be paid. He informed that the university had passed a budget of 28 billion in the last financial year by the university assembly, while the government had given a budget of 9 billion.

Registrar Dahal said that the university is spending 10 billion on salary and allowances and 4 billion on pensions. In the program, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Dr. Dharmakant Baskota, said that while there are 16,065 teachers and staff posts in the university, the government is sending salary allowances to only 13,000 people.

In the program, former vice-chancellors Prof. Dr. Tirtharaj Khanian and Kedarbhakta Mathema, former president of Nepal Federation of Commerce and Industry Pradeep Kumar Shrestha, Chief Executive Officer of National Commercial Bank Kiran Kumar Shrestha and other speakers opined that the university could not make changes according to time. They said that because the university could not produce the necessary skilled manpower, the students were forced to go abroad for higher education.

The conference will elect a new working committee for the association. At the event, Global IME Bank also conducted a class on digital banking. At the conference, Prof. Dr. Ridish Kumar Pokharel, General Secretary of the Association presented a report covering the organization's activities and Treasurer Dr. Kushmila Acharya presented a report on the fund.
