Kirtipur, Kathmandu, Baisakh 19, 2083 BS — Land owned by Tribhuvan University (TU) in Kirtipur, which had been used by various organizations and institutions, has been returned to the university for its own management.
According to a press release issued on 2083/01/19 by Nabindra Prasad Bhandari, Spokesperson for the Secretariat of the TU Senate and Executive Council, the university has also initiated the process of gradually removing and managing structures constructed on the returned land.
According to the university, land in Kirtipur had been provided to various organizations at different times. Some organizations received land through agreements directly concluded with TU, while others were allocated land in accordance with instructions and agreements involving the Government of Nepal. Certain organizations had also been occupying and using university land on their own initiative.
Despite repeated requests from TU, the concerned organizations did not vacate the land. Subsequently, on Jestha 17, 2081 BS, a committee coordinated by former Secretary Sharada Prasad Trital was formed to investigate land belonging to Tribhuvan University. The committee conducted an investigation and submitted its report to the government.
According to the publicly released report, following the formation of the current government, TU's General Administration Division issued a 35-day notice on Baisakh 4, 2083 BS, in accordance with a decision of the University's Executive Council.
The division published the notice directing organizations and associations occupying university land to vacate the premises. It also sent official letters to all concerned organizations and institutions.
According to the press release, following publication of the notice and issuance of the letters, some organizations wrote to the university requesting that it take back the land, while others sought renewal of existing arrangements or requested agreements.
The Secretariat clarified that, following these developments, all the land concerned has been returned for management by Tribhuvan University itself. The process of gradually removing and managing structures constructed for various purposes during the period of occupation and use has also begun.
