Vice Chancellor Selection Process Accelerates in Eight Universities: Interviews Completed for Three Universities Including Tribhuvan
The Government of Nepal has started interviews and work plan presentations from Saturday for candidates shortlisted for the vacant posts of vice chancellor at eight universities.
As per the pre-approved schedule endorsed by the Vice Chancellor Selection and Recommendation Committee, interviews and work plan presentations of candidates for Tribhuvan University, Far Western University, and Lumbini Buddhist University were completed on the first day, Saturday. The interview and evaluation processes for all three universities were conducted in parallel.
According to the Ministry of Education and Sports, interviews and work plan presentations for shortlisted candidates for the vice chancellor posts of the remaining five universities will be held on Sunday and Monday, respectively. With this, the Ministry stated that the vice chancellor selection process for all eight universities will be completed within the stipulated timeline.
The evaluation process has been taken forward by giving high priority to transparency, fairness, objectivity, and institutional credibility in the selection process. To make the process more effective, systematic, and quality-oriented, separate panels of experts have been arranged for each university. Each interview panel ensures the participation of distinguished experts from the relevant subject area and members of the Vice Chancellor Selection and Recommendation Committee.
The process has been conducted with the objective of selecting capable, visionary, innovation-oriented, and results-driven academic leadership, along with the qualitative transformation of higher education and institutional strengthening of universities. It is believed that this will further strengthen the culture of merit, accountability, and excellence in university administration. The detailed schedule of the selection process had already been made public through the Ministry’s official channels.
Background of the Selection Committee
The government had called for applications on Baisakh 24 for the vacant vice chancellor posts at eight universities, including Tribhuvan University. After the preliminary screening of the applications received, the meeting of the Selection and Recommendation Committee held on Jestha 13 approved the applications of eligible applicants.
Prime Minister and Chancellor of the universities Balendra Shah had formed a recommendation committee under the chairmanship of Minister for Education and Sports and Pro-Chancellor of the universities Sasmit Pokharel to recommend names for the vice chancellor posts. According to the Ministry, the committee formed another subcommittee under the leadership of experts and prepared the shortlist of candidates based on the marks awarded by the experts.
