Service Classification
IEDI services are grouped around the needs of different participants.
For Potential Entrepreneurs
This group includes individuals who want to start a business but need support in choosing a sector, shaping an idea, or preparing for enterprise creation.
IEDI offers the Entrepreneurship Sensitization Programme, a one- or two-day programme that explains entrepreneurship, risks, and opportunities. Business Creation Training helps participants turn a business idea into a workable business form.
For Existing Entrepreneurs
Existing entrepreneurs may already be running enterprises but need support to improve management, increase profit, expand markets, or identify internal weaknesses.
IEDI provides Business Health Check-up as a consultancy service to identify weaknesses in an enterprise. Expansion Training focuses on strategies required to move a business to the next stage.
For Institutions and Trainers
IEDI conducts Training of Trainers for institutions and individuals who prepare others in entrepreneurship-related training. This programme supports trainer development and institutional training capacity.
Major Training Programmes
Entrepreneurship Development Programme
The Entrepreneurship Development Programme is one of IEDI’s major training programmes. It includes several stages that guide participants from personal readiness to business planning.
The programme includes Achievement Motivation Training, which helps participants assess entrepreneurial capacity and build confidence. It also includes market survey activities, where participants study customer preferences, competitors, and pricing through market visits.
Technical information is another part of the programme. Participants learn about machinery, raw materials, and technology required for enterprise setup. At the end of the training, each participant prepares a business plan for their enterprise. This plan may also be useful when applying for bank loans.
Management Training
IEDI provides management training for entrepreneurs who need stronger business administration skills. The training areas include financial management and accounting, marketing management, human resource management, and production management.
Financial management and accounting cover profit-loss calculation, cash flow, and tax-related information. Marketing management includes branding, packaging, digital marketing, and sales skills. Human resource management covers staff selection, work division, and productivity improvement. Production management includes waste reduction and quality control.
Teaching Methodology
IEDI uses experiential and action-based learning. Its training model emphasizes practical participation rather than classroom instruction alone.
The methodology includes case studies, role play, practical exercises, field exposure, industrial visits, and feedback. Case studies are used to analyze Nepali entrepreneurship experiences. Role play helps participants practice customer communication and negotiation. Practical exercises and industrial visits expose participants to field-level learning.
Trainers provide feedback during the learning process so that participants can improve their business ideas, planning, and presentation.
Consultancy and Incubation Services
IEDI provides post-training support through mentorship, incubation, and technical services.
Mentorship connects new entrepreneurs with experienced entrepreneurs or subject experts. Incubation support may include office space, internet, and shared administrative facilities for a specified period, based on availability.
Technical support includes support related to adopting new technology or obtaining quality certification such as NS Mark.
Research and Publications
IEDI conducts research related to industrial data, trends, and business opportunities.
Its research and publication-related work includes business opportunity studies, development of training materials, and publication of industrial bulletins. Business opportunity studies identify business potential in different districts. Training materials include manuals and books suited to Nepal’s context. The industrial bulletin includes government policy and market-related information.
Application Process
People who want to join IEDI training or use its services can follow the application process announced by the institute.
Applicants are expected to check notices in national daily newspapers or on www.iedi.gov.np. They may fill out the application form online or by visiting the office. The form includes personal details and the applicant’s business idea.
Selection usually includes a short interview or screening to assess interest and commitment. Fee payment may be required. Full or partial scholarships may be available for some target groups, including women, Dalit, and persons with disabilities.
Monitoring and Evaluation
IEDI conducts tracer studies and regular monitoring to review the results of its training. These activities assess whether trainees started enterprises, their income status, and the number of jobs created.
The findings are used to review and revise training curricula.
