Switzerland through its development cooperation has been engaged in Nepal since 1959. With the establishment of its Embassy in Nepal in August 2009, Switzerland's assistance in Nepal continues to focus on federal state-building, employment and income through agriculture, rural infrastructure, and vocational skills, as well as migration. Switzerland is committed to supporting Nepal's socio-economic development and federal state building at national and sub-national levels.

The Embassy of Switzerland offers a competitive salary and benefits package as well as a stimulating team and working environment. We are looking for a young, energetic Nepali National (female candidates are encouraged to apply) for the following positions of a 2 years fixed term contract with possibility of extension:

1. General Support Assistant (1)

The post holder, under the line management of Premises and Transport Manager, shall support to ensure the maintenance of the Embassy building and premises. S/He shall support the line manager to coordinate and keep an overview of tasks related to Embassy Grounds and maintenance and also ensure smooth function of Embassy Petrol Pump.

  • Support the maintenance of Embassy office buildings and Ambassador's residence and other infrastructure construction at Ekantakuna premises (repair, paint, etc.);
  • Undertake minor electrical, plumbing and masonry tasks and organize outside services for extensive construction work;
  • Undertake replacement of IT equipment (printer, monitor, laptop, beamer, etc.)
  • Support to ensure smooth functioning of the generator;
  • Assist in collection and payment of official utility bills;
  • Assist in bulk photocopying and Binding

Required Technical Competence:

Class 10 and / Electrician Training or Plumbing training (level 2 and above) from NSTB/CTEVT or from a recognized institution; At least 1 year experience in the required job area; Able to troubleshoot and fix the electrical / plumbing problems; Able to read simple instructions and communicate in English; Ability to take responsible for specific task in the field of expertise; Ability to works independently in the field of expertise

2. Driver (1) - Female only

As a member of the Driving Team, the post holder undertakes following responsibilities under the line management of Premises and Transport Manager:

  • provide transport services to staff and visitors as per instruction within and outside Kathmandu valley;
  • takes responsibility for assigned vehicles for cleanliness, proper maintenance, as well as safety of self and passengers;

Required Technical Competence:

  • Academic qualification up to 10th standard; Valid driving license and ability to drive vehicle safely and appropriately; 2 years' experience of driving different kinds of vehicles (incl. driving to field/districts); Ability to read and interpret road signs in Nepali & English; Ability to read, understand, and adhere to the traffic and related rules and regulations; Knowledge of the operations and features of assigned vehicle(s)
  • Ability to recognize vehicle maintenance needs as well as perform minor vehicle repairs; Ability
    to interpret policies and procedures, maps, and route directions; Knowledge about First Aid
  • Required Professional/Personal and Social Competence (applicable for both positions) Courtesy and Customer orientation; Conscious of responsibility and willingness to assure confidentiality and professional integrity
  • Time management and task prioritization; Reasoning skills; Good Interpersonal skills; Ability to work in a multi-cultural team; Able to work and contribute positively to a team; Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
