
Judicial Service Commission Opens Vacancy for 21 District Judge Posts
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced vacancies for 21 District Judge positions. According to the notice issued following the Commission’s meeting on Bhadra 31, applications can be submitted within 30 days from the date of publication.

Constitutional Provision
According to Article 149 of the Constitution of Nepal, the appointment of District Judges shall be made by the Chief Justice on the recommendation of the Judicial Council.

Sub-Article (2)(a): 20% of the vacant District Judge positions are filled based on seniority, qualifications, and performance evaluation among gazetted second-class officers who have worked in the Judicial Service for at least three years and hold a Bachelor’s degree in law.

Sub-Article (2)(b): 40% of the vacant positions are filled through open competitive examination among gazetted second-class officers with at least three years of service and a Bachelor’s degree in law.

Remaining 40%: To be filled through open competitive examination among Nepali citizens who:

Have a Bachelor’s degree in law and at least eight years of continuous legal practice as an advocate, or
-
Have worked for at least eight years in a gazetted post in the Judicial Service with a Bachelor’s degree in law, or
-
Have worked continuously for at least eight years in teaching, research, or other areas related to law or justice.

Sub-Article (3) further provides that the Judicial Service Commission will conduct written and oral competitive examinations for candidates qualified under sub-clauses (b) and (c) of sub-article (2) and recommend eligible candidates to the Judicial Council for appointment as District Judges based on merit order.
