Ministry of Health, Bagmati Province Extend Deadline to Apply for School Nurse

The Ministry of Health, Bagmati Province, Health Directorate recently announced an extension in the application deadline for school nurse positions, aiming to fill vacancies across various schools. Initially set to close on 14th Chaitra 2080, the deadline has now been extended to 20th Chaitra 2080. This decision comes after a lower-than-expected number of applications and coincides with the release of Nursing Council results, providing an opportunity for newly qualified nurses to apply.

Province Wise Nursing Initiative

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, a total of 457 positions for school nurses have been advertised. These roles are crucial for staffing both existing and newly selected schools under a contract through the Health Directorate. This initiative is a part of the broader "One School One Nurse" program, successfully operational for five years in Wagmati Province, aiming to enhance health, hygiene, and nutrition awareness among schoolchildren.

Impact and Expansion of the Program

The program has already made significant strides, reaching over 500 secondary schools in Wagmati Province, ensuring that every school up to the 12th grade in 13 districts will have a nursing staff by this year. This expansion reflects the government's commitment to bolstering healthcare in educational settings, recognizing the pivotal role of schools in fostering a healthy future generation.

Challenges and Opportunities

Despite the program's successes, challenges remain, notably the high turnover of school nurses, with 112 positions currently vacant across 71 municipalities. This turnover highlights broader issues within the nursing profession, including the lure of opportunities abroad and a recent decline in nurse production. However, the ongoing recruitment drive represents a timely opportunity for qualified individuals to contribute significantly to public health and education.

The "One School One Nurse" initiative not only aims to address immediate health concerns within schools but also to lay a foundation for lifelong health and wellness among students. With the extended application deadline, the Directorate encourages all eligible and interested candidates to seize this chance to make a difference in the lives of students and the broader community.

Interested applicants are urged to review the eligibility criteria and submit their applications before the revised deadline. This is a unique opportunity to join a program that has demonstrated tangible benefits for school communities, improving both health outcomes and educational environments.
