Vacancy Announcement for the Position of Research Assistant (short-term)
A PhD researcher (Nepalese national) is seeking research assistants for an individual research project focused on non-communicable diseases and health economics. The hired research assistants will support the PhD candidate in data collection.
Location: Kathmandu Valley and Bharatpur, Chitwan (Hospital-based study), Local candidates preferred.
- Number of research assistants required: 6 for Kathmandu Valley and 7 for Bharatpur
- Number of hospitals: 2 (1 in Kathmandu Valley and 1 in Bharatpur).
- Level of effort: 10-12 days of fieldwork and participation in training (3 days) in Kathmandu
- Expected start date: Last week of March 2024
Scope of work
- Participate in 3 days of training to be held in Kathmandu.
- Travel to the study site and coordinate with hospital administration before data collection.
- Take written informed consent from patients.
- Conduct patient or provider interviews and collect hospital-related information on resource usage during patient visits using a pre-designated tool.
- Handover data and other related research documents to the PhD researcher.
- Qualifications and Requirements
Necessary:
Bachelor’s degree in health science (Medicine, Nursing, Public Health), ability to travel to the hospital sites, excellent command in both English and Nepali language, need to have an own Android mobile or tab.
Desirable:
Prior experience in data collection activities, good command over both manual and digital data collection tool
Preference:
Those with a clinical background (for one part of research that requires prior understanding of medical equipment and hospital set-up). The other part, however, does not require clinical knowledge. Local candidates for Kathmandu and Bharatpur (either resident of or currently staying in).
Remuneration and benefits
- Opportunity to work with PhD researcher on a research project with a chance for future collaboration.
- Daily allowance along with travel and communication costs will be provided. (Lodging costs shall not be provided as the plan is to hire local candidates).
