First-semester study
The first semester contains five courses, each carrying three credit hours and 48 lecture hours:
-
MKT 511: Marketing Management
-
ECO 512: Managerial Economics
-
MSC 514: Statistical Methods
-
MGT 515: Organizational Behavior
-
MGT 519: Managerial Communication
Marketing Management examines market analysis, customer value, segmentation, positioning, product decisions, pricing, distribution, communication, and marketing control. Managerial Economics applies economic concepts to business decisions through demand forecasting, production and cost analysis, pricing, risk, market efficiency, and government policy.
Statistical Methods introduces probability, probability distributions, sampling, estimation, hypothesis testing, correlation, and regression. Organizational Behavior studies individual and group behavior, perception, personality, motivation, stress, teamwork, leadership, communication, conflict, and organizational development.
Managerial Communication combines communication theory with written, oral, verbal, and non-verbal practice. Students complete activities such as business correspondence, reports, presentations, mock meetings, interviews, and preparation of employment-related documents.
Advanced management study
Later semesters move into analytical and strategic areas of management. The curriculum covers the Nepalese business environment, operations research, financial and managerial decision-making, strategic management, production and operations, and advanced specialization subjects.
Operations Research introduces optimization, linear programming, transportation and assignment models, inventory control, queuing models, game theory, and decision theory. Accounting for Financial and Managerial Decisions and Control develops the use of financial statements, accounting information, cash-flow analysis, capital budgeting, and alternative business decisions.
The Tribhuvan University MBS curriculum also contains specialization coursework in Accountancy, Finance, Management, and Marketing. These areas cover subjects such as cost management, investment analysis, working capital management, performance management, organizational development, leadership, brand management, consumer behavior, retail management, and international marketing. Most specialization courses carry three credit hours and 48 lecture hours.
Learning approach
The course content uses lectures alongside case analysis, discussion, presentations, written assignments, problem-solving exercises, and applied quantitative work. Marketing Management requires case-study activity after each chapter, while Managerial Communication follows a seminar-oriented format with classroom participation and practical communication tasks.
Subjects such as statistics, managerial economics, operations research, accounting, and finance require numerical analysis. Management and marketing courses place greater emphasis on organizational cases, strategic interpretation, communication, and decision-making.
Learning environment at the campus
