Eligibility and Admission

The Purbanchal University PBNS curriculum specifies that applicants should have passed PCL Nursing from a recognized institution and have at least one year of work experience in a recognized health institution after obtaining a Nepal Nursing Council license.

Current medical and nursing education admission follows MECEE-BL and the prevailing rules, guidelines, scholarship provisions, seat allocation system, fee structure, code of conduct, and admission procedures of the Medical Education Commission (MEC).

The stated intake at Innovative College of Health Science is 20 seats. MEC determines seat numbers for each admission cycle, so the number may change from one year to another. Fees, scholarships, seat allocation, and admission schedules may also be revised under MEC decisions and the applicable MEC calendar.

What Students Study

The three-year curriculum moves from core nursing and health sciences into community, clinical, managerial, research, and specialty areas.

First Year

First-year study includes Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Microbiology and Parasitology, Biochemistry, Nutrition and Dietetics, Basic Science/Nutrition practical work, Medical-Surgical Nursing-I, Nursing Concepts and Theories, Pediatric Nursing, Medical Sociology/Anthropology, and Professional English.

Second Year

The second year covers Midwifery-I, Community Health Nursing-I, Psychiatric Nursing-I, Educational Science, Epidemiology, Geriatric Nursing, and Applied Computer Technology. Several subjects combine theory with practical or clinical work.

Third Year

Third-year study includes Leadership and Management, Research and Biostatistics in Nursing, Oncology Nursing, and an elective subject. Students select from:

  • Community Health Nursing-II

  • Midwifery-II

  • Medical-Surgical Nursing-II

  • Psychiatric Nursing-II

The elective also includes a practicum related to the selected specialty.

Clinical and Practical Learning

Clinical practice runs throughout the program. First-year practice includes general and children’s hospital settings, laboratory work, nutrition practice, and skill-lab activities.

Second-year clinical work includes maternity, specialty, and mental health settings, senior citizen care, educational institutions, and community health placements. Third-year practical work covers management, oncology nursing, research activities, and the selected major subject. Research practice includes proposal writing, conducting research, and report writing.

Teaching methods include lectures, group discussion, observation, demonstration, assignments, presentations, practical assignments, observation visits, self-directed learning, and problem-based learning.

The curriculum uses internal assessment and final examinations. For theory subjects, internal assessment accounts for 20% and the final examination for 80%. Practical evaluation assigns 80% to internal assessment, while the final examination in the major elective subject accounts for 20%.

Professional Licensing

Completion of PBNS does not by itself complete the professional licensing process. Graduates must meet the prevailing professional council requirements and pass the applicable licensing examination before entering professional nursing practice.

For nursing graduates, the relevant professional regulatory body is the Nepal Nursing Council.

Who May Consider PBNS?

PBNS is intended for qualified nurses seeking bachelor-level study that extends their preparation into advanced nursing practice, community health, research, education, leadership, and management.

The program may be relevant to nurses whose academic background, professional experience, admission eligibility, and longer-term nursing interests align with the structure of the course. Admission decisions should also account for the current MECEE-BL requirements, MEC rules, available seats, fees, and scholarship provisions for the applicable academic year.
