
Sketch and Sculpture Exhibition Opens in Kathmandu
An art exhibition featuring more than 1,400 sketches and sculptures created by students and teachers from 46 community schools within Kathmandu Metropolitan City began on Friday.
The event, titled "Sketching and Sculpture", is part of the Education through Skills program jointly organized by the Kathmandu Metropolitan Education Department and the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts.
Exhibition Aims to Link Education with Creativity
During the opening ceremony, Chancellor of the Academy Naradmani Hartamchhali stated that the exhibition helps connect education with art and inspires children to explore creative fields.
He remarked, “The Metropolitan City’s initiative, launched under the ‘Good Friday’ program to engage students in cultural and skill-based activities every Friday, has produced excellent results through this collaboration with the Academy, leading to remarkable artistic creations.”
Participation and Impact of the Event
Devendra Kumar Kafle ‘Thumkeli’, Member Secretary of the Academy, shared that around 1,300 students and teachers jointly created over 1,400 artworks for the exhibition.
He emphasized that art plays a vital role in developing creative citizens and expressed hope that the exhibition would inspire students to pursue art seriously in the future.
Encouraging Creative Career Paths
Exhibition Coordinator and Head of the Multidimensional and Creative Arts Department, Saurganga Darshandhari, noted that students can build names, fame, and careers through art.
He added that the exhibition helps cultivate students’ interest in art and encourages parents to nurture their children's creative potential.
He highlighted that participation has increased significantly from just 9 schools last year to 46 this year.

Students have presented a wide range of works, including:

Drawings with thematic messages

Portrait sketches of notable personalities

Decorative clay items such as temples, statues, piggy banks, cups, and glasses
In addition, a special segment titled “Unity” features artworks created collaboratively by instructors and assistant trainers as part of the exhibition.
Exhibition Duration
The exhibition will run until next Tuesday, welcoming visitors to experience a broad spectrum of school-level creativity and craftsmanship.
