Overview

Kalika Municipality (in Nepali: कालिका नगरपालिका) is located in the northeastern part of Chitwan in Bagmati Province of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, this municipality was declared by the Government of Nepal on 1 Ashoj 2072 by merging the then three VDCs: Shaktikhor, Padampur, and Jutpani.

During the state restructuring, the area of the then Kalika Municipality was expanded on 27 Falgun 2073 by merging the then Siddhi VDC, forming the present Kalika Municipality. This municipality has been divided into 11 wards.

According to the National Census 2078, the total population of the municipality is 52,164, including 26,673 females and 25,491 males. The number of households is 12,258. The current area of the municipality is 149.08 square kilometers.

Although the office of the municipality is to remain at Redcrossgram, it is currently located temporarily at Kamalchok, Kalika Municipality-6.

Geographically, the municipality has both plain land and some hilly areas. It is close to road transport access. In the lower plain area, roads that can operate throughout the year have reached almost every settlement, and it can be estimated that there are also a notable number of blacktopped roads.

The municipality is considered fertile for the production of food crops, mainly paddy, maize, and wheat; oilseed crops such as mustard; and pulse crops such as lentils. In recent days, farmers here appear to be attracted toward banana farming, vegetable farming, and livestock farming.

From the perspective of livestock farming, cow farming has advanced commercially, while other forms of livestock farming also appear to have equal potential. Similarly, under cash crops, all types of vegetables grown in the Terai area according to the season are cultivated here, and their commercial production is practiced.

Politically, all wards of this municipality fall under Electoral Constituency No. 2 among the electoral constituencies of the district.

Kalika Municipality is located at latitude 27.1 degrees to 27.15 degrees north and longitude 83.1 degrees to 83.41 degrees east. Situated in the northeastern part of Chitwan District, Kalika Municipality geographically includes both hilly and Terai areas.

After its formation in 2073 during the local level restructuring process, it has been felt that this municipality has made a new and effective leap in development. Covering the entire area of the former Shaktikhor, Siddhi, Padampur, and Jutpani VDCs, the municipality has been divided into 11 wards.

The indigenous Chepang community lives in the hilly areas of Ward No. 10 and Ward No. 11. In other plain areas of the municipality, there is now a sense that urbanization has begun to move forward.

Geography and Location

Kalika Municipality covers 149.08 square kilometres in the eastern-northern part of Chitwan District. Its geography includes both hilly settlements and lower, flatter areas. The municipality’s profile describes it as a local unit with mixed hill and Terai characteristics.

Administrative Formation

Kalika Municipality was formed from the former Village Development Committees of Shaktikhor, Padampur and Jutpani. Siddhi was later incorporated during the restructuring process, giving the municipality its present administrative shape. The municipality is divided into 11 wards for local governance and service delivery.
