Bahrabise Municipality of Sindhupalchok has been providing mid-day meals up to class 6, but now it is going to be provided up to class 8. It has also announced that no fees will be charged till class 12. According to the head of the municipality, Balkrishna Basnet, free education, and mid-day meals have been started in 54 schools within the municipality.
"The 6,700 students enrolled in this academic session within the municipality do not have to pay any kind of fee", Mayor Basnet said, "Any school that charges fees will be punished."
He said that after the city provides all the necessary educational materials to the secondary schools, they will not be able to charge the students. The municipality is going to bear the additional expenses of mid-day meals, examination fees, and laboratories of science faculty. For which an amount of 26 million has been allocated.
Binod Karki, head of the education branch of the municipality, said that Bahrbise municipality has implemented it from this year according to the education provisions mentioned in the constitution of the Nepal.
