Public Service Commission to Celebrate 75th Anniversary with Year-Round Events
The Public Service Commission (PSC) of Nepal is set to commemorate its 75th anniversary with a year-long series of events and programs. The PSC was established on Asar 1, 2008 BS, following the advent of democracy in Nepal.
According to Commissioner Veer Bahadur Rai, the Commission will host special programs on its anniversary day, along with awareness campaigns at the university and school levels about the Commission’s importance.
Engagement with Scholars and Archiving Historical Context
The PSC will organize discussions and interactions with scholars from various fields to deliberate on the recruitment methods and procedures adopted by the Commission. It will also conduct programs to archive important historical matters in phases.
A structured plan has been prepared to hold one event every two months throughout the year.
Auditorium to Be Named After Bhubanman Singh Pradhan
Spokesperson and Joint Secretary Geeta Kumari Homegai stated that the Commission will celebrate its diamond jubilee through year-long events marking its 75th year.
On the eve of the anniversary, the Commission will rename its assembly hall as the Bhubanman Singh Pradhan Assembly Hall. Pradhan served in various roles at the Commission from 2015 BS to 2045 BS, including as Secretary from 2037 BS to 2045 BS.
This decision honors his contributions to promoting fairness, merit, and integrity in the Commission's performance. He introduced reforms such as double-coding answer sheets to maintain anonymity and advanced examination technologies.
The central auditorium, located at the Commission’s Kamalpokhari headquarters, has a seating capacity of 200.
Special Recognition and High-Level Participation
On Asar 1, a special event will be held to honor outstanding current and former employees of the Commission. The President of Nepal will attend the program as the chief guest. Invitations have also been extended to the Prime Minister and the Chairperson of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives.
Broader Scope of the Commission’s Examination Duties
The Commission conducts competitive examinations to select suitable candidates for civil service positions. It also organizes written examinations for appointments in the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and other federal government services and organized institutions.
To uphold fairness and accuracy in the selection process, the PSC is responsible for question paper preparation, moderation, answer sheet evaluation, and interview management.
Institutional Capacity and Infrastructure Development
Commissioner Rai further noted that beyond commemorative events, the PSC will initiate policy dialogues and review the existing examination systems.
This year, the Commission aims to prioritize institutional capacity building, including the construction of examination centers and administrative buildings. On the day of the main celebration event, the Commission will also unveil the official emblem representing the diamond jubilee.
