NEB Requests Support to Correct Birth Registration for SEE

The National Examination Board (NEB) has requested all secondary schools to make necessary arrangements to correct the birth registration of students who may be deprived of participating in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) due to not meeting the prescribed minimum age.

Issuing a notice on Friday, the Board stated that, according to the sixth amendment of the Education Regulations 2059 (dated 2067/10/09), students must complete fourteen years of age by the end of Chaitra to participate in the SEE. Because the age mentioned in some students’ birth registration certificates does not meet this requirement, situations had arisen where they would be deprived of the examination.

A solution was sought after requests were made to the Board and the Department of National ID and Civil Registration by parents, schools, and local levels.

According to Section 72 of the Act to Amend Some Nepal Acts, the Government of Nepal has amended Section 25(1) of the National ID and Civil Registration Act 2076. Under this provision, if it is necessary to correct the name, surname, age, or other details mentioned in a personal event registration certificate, the concerned person may submit a one-time application in the prescribed format at the office of the local registrar.

The Board has requested schools to facilitate the process of amending the details stated in birth registration by providing verified records from the time of the student’s admission to Grade 1 if requested by the concerned local level and the office of the local registrar under it. The Board informed that this decision was made through an Chairmen level decision on 2082/08/15.

Details can also be corrected in the EMIS system

Similarly, it has been stated that the details mentioned in the birth registration of students whose name, surname, or date of birth has been corrected can also be updated in the EMIS system.

The Board informed that, in a joint meeting held with the Education and Human Resource Development Center on 2082/08/17, it was decided that corrections for Grades 1 to 7 can be made by the school itself, and for Grade 8 by the concerned local level.
