KU 31st Convocation: 2,209 Students Graduated

A total of 2,209 students studying at Kathmandu University have graduated.

The Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University (KU), Prof. Dr. Achyut Wagle, informed that a total of 2,209 students were conferred degrees during the 31st convocation ceremony held on Wednesday. Of them, 83 were from the School of Arts, 294 from the School of Education, 340 from the School of Engineering, 36 from the School of Law, 378 from the School of Management, 881 from the School of Medical Sciences, and 197 from the School of Science.

Prime Minister Sushila Karki also attended the convocation ceremony.

Among the graduates, 7 are at the PhD, DM, and MCh levels, 397 are at the postgraduate level, 50 are at the PGD level, and 1,728 are at the bachelor’s level.

Similarly, 52.24 percent, i.e., 1,154 are men, and 47.76 percent, i.e., 1,055 are women.

Among the graduates, 196, i.e., foreign nationals, were from 17 countries: Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the United Kingdom, India, Japan, Malaysia, the Maldives, Mexico, Namibia, Russia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, the United States of America, and Vietnam.

For the first time from Kathmandu University, under the School of Sciences, 1 student graduated in Master of Philosophy by Research in Mathematics and 29 students graduated in Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.

Similarly, under the School of Medical Sciences, 20 students graduated for the first time in Master of Medical Research.

The Chancellor Gold Medal was awarded to Spain’s Maite Cayastillano Menchasa, who is studying Master of Arts in Translation, Textual Interpretation and Philology and secured the highest 4 CGPA at the postgraduate level. The Vice Chancellor Gold Medal was awarded to Gaurab Singh Saud of Nobel Medical College, Biratnagar, who secured the highest 85.45 percent marks at the bachelor’s level in MBBS. The Juddhabahadur Shrestha Gold Medal was awarded to Aruna Budhathoki of the School of Management, who secured the highest CGPA 3.94 in the MBA level, and the Ranbahadur Shah Gold Medal, which is given to the best student of the MBA level, was awarded to Saugat Dangal of the School of Management, who secured 3.94 CGPA.

The Nhuchheratna Tuladhar Gold Medal, awarded to the female student who secures the highest marks at the bachelor’s level, was given to Raksha Tiwari of Lumbini Medical College in MBBS, who secured 82.17 percent. The Premraj Pant Gold Medal was awarded to Swastika Acharya, who secured the highest CGPA 3.99 at the bachelor’s level (School of Management). The Dinesh Thapa Gold Medal was awarded to Aalsa Regmi of the School of Law, who secured the highest CGPA 3.39 in the Bachelor of Business Management and Bachelor of Law programs.

The number of graduates from Kathmandu University has reached 50,040. Among them, the number of foreign graduates is 5,860, i.e., about 12 percent.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Karki stated that consultations are being held to keep the provision of having an academic as the Chancellor.

She informed that to end the tradition of politicization in Nepal’s higher education, arrangements are being made to have an academic as the Chancellor.
