100 Students Left in Limbo as Lumbini Buddhist University Halts Admission and Registration; College Prepares to Return to Court
Students and college operators have turned to the court after Lumbini Buddhist University halted the admission and registration process of its affiliated institution, Lumbini International Academy of Science and Technology Pvt. Ltd.. The college is preparing to return to court, alleging that the university has failed to proceed with the admission process despite an order from the Supreme Court.
The college, located in Manbhawan, Lalitpur, has been affiliated with the university for the past 11 years and has been offering postgraduate-level engineering programs. According to the college’s chairperson, D.R. Ghimire, Dr. Indra Kafle, who recently assumed responsibility as acting registrar, halted the college’s admission and registration process.
As the admission and registration process remains incomplete, around 100 students studying various engineering subjects at the college have been left in limbo, while their academic future has become uncertain.
A joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Nripadhwaj Niraula and Sunil Kumar Pokharel has already issued an order to proceed with the activities while maintaining the status quo. However, the college has accused the university of failing to implement the order.
Chairperson Ghimire said the university could not grant affiliation and admit students in the past and then halt the process due to various interests.
“The university has even disregarded the Supreme Court’s order, so we are preparing to return to court,” he said. “Students have also become angry as their future has been placed in uncertainty.”
Meanwhile, Lumbini Buddhist University’s Acting Registrar Dr. Indra Kafle said the university was internally reviewing the court order concerning the college. He also stated that correspondence had been sent to the Nepal Engineering Council regarding the engineering college.
Dr. Kafle clarified that the necessary decision would be made and the process moved forward only after all legal and technical aspects had been reviewed.
