Government to Use Force if Student Organizations Are Not Removed from Universities
The government has stated that it will use force if student organizations are not removed from universities. A meeting coordinated by the University Grants Commission (UGC) decided that, in order to remove such organizations from those places, both temporary and permanent security units would also be stationed on university premises.
The meeting, attended by office-bearers of all universities operating in the country, along with the Secretary and Joint Secretaries of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, also decided to remove student organizations’ flags and wall writings from universities.
This issue has been given priority among the government’s 100-point governance reform measures introduced with the aim of eliminating partisan politics from universities in Nepal. To implement the decision, university officials have committed to immediately vacate offices that have been provided to student organizations and not to provide such offices from now on.
A joint meeting held a few days ago at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology also decided to remove student organizations’ flags, banners, and wall writings from university premises under the wider education reform roadmap.
It was also decided that if any provisions related to partisan student organizations exist in university acts, a three-column proposal will be prepared to remove them and submitted immediately to the Ministry of Education through the Commission.
