Nepal Rastra Bank Brings New Rs. 500 Notes Bearing Governor Bishwanath Paudel’s Signature into Circulation

Nepal Rastra Bank has brought new banknotes of Rs. 500 denomination into circulation from today, 3 Asar 2083. The Bank’s Currency Management Department published a notice stating that the notes have been released in the market with new features while retaining the existing size and color.
The serial numbers of these new notes range from Jha/38 000001 to Ta/83 999999. The notes bear the signature of the current Governor, Prof. Dr. Bishwanath Paudel.
Main Features of the Notes
Features on the Front Side of the Note
The central section contains the promissory statement: “Sri Nepal Rastra Bank, backed by the guarantee of the Government of Nepal, will immediately pay Rs. 500, Rupees five hundred, upon demand for payment of this rupee from Nepal Rastra Bank.”
There is an image of Mount Everest on the left side and a watermark of the rhododendron on the right side.
The lower section mentions the series number “B.S. 2082.”
To the left of the watermark, two black dots have been placed so that persons with different abilities, including visually impaired persons, can identify the note by touch.
To the right of Mount Everest, there is an image of Kubera inside an oval shape, which appears golden when viewed straight and green when viewed from an angle.
The note has a 3.5 mm wide security thread, which appears red when viewed straight and green when viewed from an angle.
Features on the Back Side of the Note
The central section contains an image of a Bengal tiger, with “NEPAL RASTRA BANK” written above it.
The lower section contains “RUPEES FIVE HUNDRED” and the series number “2025 A.D.”
The Bank has also clarified one detail from its previous notice. In the notice dated 9 Poush 2078, it had been stated that notes under the 2020 series with serial numbers from Chha/38 000001 to Jha/42 999999 would be brought into circulation. However, the Bank has informed that only notes with serial numbers from Chha/38 000001 to Jha/37 248000 were actually brought into circulation.
Nepal Rastra Bank has also requested the public to ensure the safety and proper use of notes, stating, “Banknotes are the nation’s property; let us take care of them.”
